The PYP integrates best practices from different national curricula and is in line with current educational research. An appointed authorization team visited the school in January 2009 to learn about Glennwood’s commitment to the educational philosophy of the programme. The team gathered information for their recommendation through speaking with teachers, students, staff, parents and community members, as well as visiting classrooms to observe instruction.  Click here to read more about Glennwood's programme.     More... We invite you to take the time to browse our web site and become familiar with our learning community. Since we opened our doors in 2004 as a newly configured school for all 4th and 5th graders in City Schools of Decatur, I find it a pleasure to offer a tour of the oldest school building in the city of Decatur to first-time visitors as well as returning alumni. Inevitably, they admire the beauty of the 1913 facility modernized through an extensive renovation completed in 2003. Yet far more pleasing are the responses of our visitors to the Glennwood students and staff they encounter. Building on a tradition of excellence, the learning atmosphere is one that is warm, inviting and very family oriented. We challenge students each and every day to excel in their studies, activities and relationships. We are constantly looking to uncover the individual brilliance of each child and move closer to the school district's educational goals of excellence for every student. It is an exciting and wonderful time here at Glennwood Academy.  After several years of a rigorous process that included the Feasibility Study, Candidate School Phase preparation, and an Authorization visit, Glennwood was accepted as an International Baccalaureate World School. This distinction is issued by the International Baccalaureate Organization Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. Glennwood Academy offers the Primary YearsProgramme (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate Organization. We are excited about joining the international network of authorized IB World Schools! The Glennwood Academy staff is proud to be part of an excellent school system where people are committed and involved, all for the benefit of the students in our care.
